Roman Museum

Bild: Römermuseum

Tulln’s Roman Museum in the Marc Aurel Park with its many original findings, pictures, figures, dioramas and models shows military and civilian life in the Roman fort "Comagenis” in a time-span from approx 90 - 488 CE.

Information about the province of Noricum and a picture documentation about the other forts in the area around Tulln is followed by the depiction of the fort’s military life in the central room.

The most recent finding of Tulln’s archeological research - an inscription naming the equestrian unit - is shown in the Roman museum, as well as a model showing the fort in today’s city.

There are also plenty of objects documenting civilian life: jewellery, glasses and pottery, inscription-stones as well as remeants of grave-buildings and a treasure of coins. A pair wearing celtic garments shows the clothing of the natives, the true to life imitation of a house-front of the fort village leads to a room with architecture and house utensils. A wall fresco, painted after original findings, shows Roman living culture on the frontier of the Empire.

Furthermore, the Roman museum shows findings of the Roman grave culture with a selection of burial objects. The collection is concluded by objects from the simpler late-antique culture and a view of St. Severin, who worked here in 460-480.
